Europe holds 10% of global aluminium extrusion demand, supported by Germany’s Constellium, France’s Hydro Extrusions & Italy’s Metra
Across Europe, aluminium extrusion has become closely woven into some of the region’s biggest industrial and construction markets. From automotive and transport to buildings and industrial applications, extruded profiles are finding demand across a wide range of sectors. This is reflected in Europe’s position in the global market: the region accounted for 12 per cent of global aluminium extrusion capacity, making it the second-largest regional contributor after China. At the same time, Europe represented 10 per cent of global aluminium extrusion usage, out of total global usage of 35.35 million tonnes . With production capacity and usage shares relatively close, Europe’s extrusion capacity and consumption are broadly at par. If we break down Europe’s 10 per cent share of global aluminium...
H1 2026 sees more renewable energy than ever: Here’s a region-by-region guide to renewable energy supply in the recent past
In the first half of 2025, humanity generated more electricity from renewables than from coal for the first time ever. What led to it? It was possible only because of two decades of falling solar panel prices, taller wind turbines, and governments finally treating clean power like an economic opportunity instead of a favour to the planet. But the renewable energy scenario cannot be portrayed as a single global story. To get the full picture, one has to connect dozens of regional stories moving at wildly different speeds. Some countries are already powered almost entirely by sun, wind and water. Others are still warming up. Here is a tour of how renewable energy supply looks across the world’s regions right now, and who is actually leading the charge. The global scorecard: Renewable energy...

India: Domestic aluminium market posts weekly gains tracking strong global cues
India's domestic aluminium prices recorded notable week-on-week gains, supported by upward price revisions from primary producers following a rise in LME and MCX aluminium prices and renewed global supply concerns. The increase came despite comfortable domestic availability and only a gradual improvement in downstream demand, underscoring the dominant influence of global market cues on prices during the week. BigMint's assessment showed India's domestic P1020 ingot (99.7 per cent) prices rising by INR 5,000 per tonne w-o-w to INR 292,000 per tonne ex-Delhi NCR, while Mumbai ex-works prices gained by INR 12,000 per tonne to INR 301,000 per tonne amid firm global market cues. WEEKLY: China's spot alumina market remains oversupplied
According to Mysteel's weekly survey, total smelter-grade alumina output among the 44 Chinese alumina refiners under Mysteel tracking ticked up marginally by 0.2 per cent on a week to 1.84 million tonnes during the December 19-25 week. During the same week, the average capacity utilisation rate across the same 44 producers rose slightly to 85.14 per cent, up 0.14 percentage points from the previous week. The increase stemmed from the fact that many producers maintained relatively high operating rates while engaged in price negotiations for next year's long-term contracts, market sources learned. Some talks were deadlocked, with alumina producers on the verge of losses holding firm on prices while primary aluminium smelters pushed for lower procurement prices. Explore- Most accurate data...

Europe’s primary aluminium output rose only 0.9% in 2025 - are CBAM and policy pressures steering the shift toward 51% recycling?
Just like the US, Europe appears to be reshaping its aluminium strategy - and scrap is steadily gaining the upper hand. With recycling crossing the 50 per cent mark in 2025, the balance of the industry is shifting away from primary aluminium and moving toward secondary metal. That trend is also visible in the production numbers. Primary aluminium production across Europe, including Russia reached 6.4 million tonnes between January and November 2025. That’s only slightly higher than the 6.38 million tonnes recorded in 2024 and 6.1 million tonnes in 2023, in the same period, working out to growth of about 0.9 per cent in 2025 after a stronger 3.8 per cent growth the year before. During 2025, output moved up in stages - 1.72 million tonnes in the first quarter, 1.74 million tonnes in the...

45MT cap in name only! China’s influence on the global aluminium market lives on through Asia
As China edges closer to its self-imposed primary aluminium production cap of 45 million tonnes, a set of billion-dollar questions is reverberating in air. Is the global market counting days for supply deficit? Will anybody step in to bridge the gap? If yes, then who can do so at scale? While these questions seem obvious, answers may appear to be far less aligned with prevailing assumptions. However, before exploring the possibilties, let us check how the market is already reacting to the early signals of supply deficit amidst steady demand growth. How is primary aluminium responding to today’s market condition? Already the rising demand and supply deficit is making its presence felt in prices. Primary aluminium on the London Metal Exchange has climbed to USD 2,932 per tonne (as of...

India turns to self-reliance as China curbs rare earth exports - can expansion plans bridge the gap?
India’s rare earth footprint spans coastlines, riverbeds and hard rock terrains, giving the country one of the more widely distributed resource bases globally. According to the government data, India hosts around 7-7.2 million tonnes of rare earth elements oxide (REO) contained within 13.15 million tonnes of monazite, occurring across coastal beach sands, teri and red sand belts, and inland alluvium in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Gujarat and Maharashtra. In addition, 1.29 MT of rare earths is located in hard rock formations in parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan. Despite this geological spread, India currently meets very little of its rare earth demand through local production, relying instead on imports - an imbalance that has come into focus as global...
