Porsche's lightweight GT3 gets heavier, and that's the point
Porsche's 911 GT3 Bergsport swaps its lightest magnesium wheels for forged aluminium, proving that a few extra kilos can make sense when the road gets serious. There are few places where saving weight matters more than inside a Porsche 911 GT3. Yet for its new 911 GT3 Bergsport, Porsche has done something that sounds almost wrong for a car wearing the GT3 badge: it deliberately added weight. Toyota GR GT’s aluminium chassis is built to be driven hard
Toyota has opened up the GR GT’s chassis, and the most interesting part may be what happens if owners push the supercar too far on a racetrack. The GR GT is Toyota’s first vehicle with an all-aluminium body frame. It uses nine large aluminium castings connected to aluminium tubes and extrusions, creating a structure designed to be light, strong and rigid. Maxion Wheels is taking a different approach to protecting forged aluminium truck wheels, introducing a new ceramic surface treatment designed to keep corrosion, road grime and other contaminants at bay while making the wheels easier to clean. CITIC updates aluminium wheel supply agreement, raises purchase cap through 2028
CITIC Dicastal has revised its aluminium alloy wheel supply agreement with affiliated companies, raising annual purchase caps through 2028 following changes to its supplier network and expectations of stronger market demand. According to a filing with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the new framework agreement replaces an earlier arrangement after several wheel manufacturers became, or are expected to become, connected parties following acquisitions by parent company CITIC Group. Under the revised agreement, the annual cap for purchases of aluminium alloy wheels will increase from 680 million yuan to 11 billion yuan in 2026, 12 billion yuan in 2027, and 13 billion yuan in 2028. From waste to energy: GeT Metal Group transforms tyres into fuel for aluminium production
South Africa-based GeT Metal Group and its subsidiary GeT Alloys have launched a waste-to-energy initiative aimed at eliminating fossil fuel use in aluminium melting operations by converting end-of-life tyres into industrial fuel. The project is designed to process around 150,000 waste tyres annually, producing approximately 1.44 million litres of industrial fuel. The fuel will replace conventional heavy fuel oil previously used in GeT Alloys’ aluminium recycling operations, helping address South Africa’s growing tyre waste challenge while reducing the carbon footprint of industrial production.
