European aluminium premium hits $574/t as potential US tariff cut raises Canadian supply fears
European aluminium premiums have climbed to their highest level in almost four months as the market weighs the potential impact of lower US tariffs on Canadian aluminium supplies. The front-month COMEX European duty-paid aluminium premium rose 10 per cent to USD 574 per tonne on October 1, Thursday, according to LSEG data. The premium, which is paid on top of the London Metal Exchange (LME) aluminium price for physical metal, reached its highest level since June 8. 529m metal aerosol units sold in UK in 2025 as demand shifts across categories
UK aluminium and metal aerosol packaging sales reached approximately 529 million units in 2025, with strong growth in selected personal care, household and food applications offsetting declines in other categories, down from approximately 567 million units in 2016, according to data from the British Aerosol Manufacturers’ Association (BAMA), based on Euromonitor research. While the overall volume has declined over the decade, the figures point to a more mixed picture for the UK aerosol market. German downstream aluminium exports fall 13% in H1 2026 but US enters top 5 with 228.1% import surge
Germany’s downstream aluminium export map underwent a noticeable shift in H1 2026. Shipments to the world fell, with most of Germany’s traditional European customers taking less aluminium downstream product. Yet, amid that broad retreat, one market moved in the opposite direction: the United States. German downstream aluminium exports to the world fell to 897,773.19 tonnes in H1 2026 from 1 million tonnes in H1 2025, a decline of 13 per cent year on year. The contrast was particularly sharp in the US market. American imports of German downstream aluminium reached 68,061.61 tonnes in H1 2026, up 228.1 per cent from just 20,743.62 tonnes in H1 2025.
