Metro Mining reviews 2026 bauxite guidance after channel disruption and staffing setbacks
Metro Mining Limited is reviewing its full-year 2026 shipment guidance after operational disruptions at its Bauxite Hills Mine in Queensland, Australia, constrained barging capacity and equipment utilisation. The company shipped 659,000 tonnes of bauxite in September, bringing year-to-date shipments to 4.013 million tonnes. In an operational update dated October 12, 2026, Metro Mining said a sand-bank collapse reduced the depth of its barging channel from 1.8 metres to 1.3 metres during September, limiting the movement of bauxite. Cameroon to hold October hearings on proposed $2b alumina refinery
Public hearings on Camalco Cameroon’s proposed alumina refinery are scheduled for October 12–17, 2026. The company is a subsidiary of Australia-registered Canyon Resources. The hearings will examine the project's environmental and social impact assessment. The refinery is linked to the Minim-Martap bauxite deposit in the Adamawa Region. The Ministry of Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development (MINEPDED) announced the hearings in a public notice. India is producing around 25 million tonnes of bauxite a year, has 4.958 billion tonnes of bauxite resources, and currently produces around 9.5 million tonnes of alumina annually. Yet instead of declining, the country's bauxite imports have been rising. India’s bauxite imports reached 3.70 million tonnes in H1 2026, more than twice the 1.612 million tonnes recorded in H1 2025. The increase of 2.088 million tonnes, or 129.5 per cent, has brought a key question into focus: why are imports rising when domestic bauxite production appears sufficient for current alumina output? EGA announces first Guinean bauxite shipment under renewed agreement on way to UAE
Emirates Global Aluminium, the largest industrial company in the United Arab Emirates outside oil and gas, today announced that the first shipment of Guinean bauxite under a renewed agreement with Compagnie des Bauxites de Guinée is on its way to the UAE. Some 66 thousand tonnes of bauxite were loaded onto a Panamax vessel at Kamsar in late August. US bauxite imports decline 14.5% in H1 2026 while volumes climb 6.9%
US imports of bauxite and other aluminum ores and concentrates fell 14.5% year-on-year to $68.46 million in the first half (H1) of 2026, according to Trade Map data. In terms of volumes, however, imports rose 6.9% year-on-year to 1.27 million metric tons, from 1.19 million metric tons in H1 2025. The decline in value followed a 5.7% increase during H1 2025. Camalco Cameroon is extending its position in the logistics network being planned for the Minim-Martap bauxite project, acquiring a 42.8 per cent stake in Douala Port Timber Terminal (TBPD).
