SRF plans ₹6b battery-grade aluminium foil plant in Madhya Pradesh as Q2 profit rises 31%
SRF Ltd is expanding its presence in the aluminium foil sector with a planned investment of INR 6 billion (USD 63.5 million) in a battery-grade aluminium foil manufacturing facility in Madhya Pradesh, as the chemicals producer reported a 31 per cent year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit for the second quarter of FY27. The proposed plant will have an annual production capacity of 12,000 tonnes and cater to lithium-ion (Li-ion) and sodium-ion (Na-ion) battery applications. The investment comes as energy storage and electric mobility sectors drive demand for battery materials. The company’s board has approved the investment, with the facility planned at the existing site of its subsidiary, SRF Altech Ltd, at Jetapur in Madhya Pradesh. German aluminium producer Speira has launched CORIS, a new product label for high-purity aluminium designed for advanced technology applications, including semiconductors, electronics, aerospace, medical technology and electrification. The CORIS range covers aluminium purity levels from 99.9% (3N) to 99.9999% or higher (6N+). Speira said the products are designed to meet the growing demand for materials with high electrical and thermal conductivity, precision and reliability. The company controls trace elements at parts-per-million (ppm) levels to maintain consistent material quality and performance. South Korea’s aluminium foil market has entered a stronger phase in 2026, with imports reaching their highest level in five years. But the trade data points to a more specific shift beneath the headline growth: most of the additional aluminium foil entering South Korea is coming from China. South Korea imported 57,261.18 tonnes of aluminium foil from the world in YTD July 2026, up 23.94 per cent from 46,201.68 tonnes in YTD July 2025.
