Rusal, a leading global aluminium producer, is mastering the production of aluminium cast pipes together with Lipetsk Pipe Company Svobodny Sokol. The quality of pipes is comparable to products made from conventional materials.
The casting technology which Rusal uses makes it possible to produce pipes of up to 1 metre diameter and a length of up to 6 metres for the needs of housing and utility services, oil and gas production, as well as fire extinguishing.
In the near future, Rusal plans to test its new high-strength alloy for housing and utility services, which will expectedly provide the same mechanical strength characteristics as steel and cast-iron pipes.
The weight of aluminium pipes is three times lesser than cast iron analogues, owing to which, they are easy and cost-effective to transport and install, even in difficult areas. The price of aluminium pipes is comparable to that of high-strength cast iron products.
Moreover, these aluminium pipes have better corrosion resistance compared to cast iron and steel pipes, as they have a dense and hard oxide film on the surface that protects from destruction.
“Such advantages allow us to forecast that centrifugally cast aluminium pipes in the near future will become widespread in many industries along with steel and cast iron pipes,’ said Roman Andryushin, Deputy CEO of UC RUSAL for Sales in Russia, the CIS, and China.
Rusal’s advantageous pricing policy and long-term contracts with suppliers with fixed premium for processing in 2021 will make the aluminium pipes popular in the domestic market, which were previously not produced in the country and imported from abroad.
