EDITED BY : 3MINS READ

Hindalco Industries, the flagship of Aditya Birla Group, has always been at the forefront of upholding India’s status in the global industries supply chain. This time, the company has set up an investment of INR 586 crore (USD 71 million) to build an advanced aluminium extrusion facility at Kuppam in Andhra Pradesh. The new facility is solely aimed at manufacturing high-precision extruded aluminium parts used in the chassis of Apple’s iPhones.

As per the recent updates by Hindalco Industries, the new plant is likely to be set up by March 2027, generating over 600 jobs within the first four years of operations.

Strengthening Apple’s manufacturing footprint in India

Over the past couple of years, Apple has been trying to rely on India as a core manufacturing base. With the new plant, Apple’s dependence on India continues to deepen. With iPhone assembly already underway in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, Hindalco’s new Kuppam facility will surely become instrumental in manufacturing enclosures and structural parts, cutting import dependency.

Strategically positioned near Bengaluru and Chennai, Hindalco’s plant already gains a competitive edge. It certainly strengthens supply chain efficiency for Apple and the wider electronics ecosystem.

Policy push for electronics manufacturing

The recent project by Hindalco will be built under the Andhra Pradesh Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy 2025–30.  According to this, the government will incentivise the facility with subsidised land and infrastructural support. This policy is directed at large-scale investments and strengthening Andhra Pradesh as a base for advanced component manufacturing.

According to the business experts, Hindalco’s new development is going to significantly contribute to industrial growth and, at the same time, perfectly enhance employment opportunities and skill development in the region.

New investment lined up in the future

Along with Hindalco’s new aluminium extrusion facility, companies like Syrma SGS Technology are all set to explore the potential of large-scale investments in Andhra Pradesh. Syrma has also proposed an INR 1,800 crore investment to build a manufacturing unit formultilayer PCBs and copper-clad laminates, which would further strengthen the electronics manufacturing ecosystem in India.

India rising in global tech manufacturing

Hindalco’s new aluminium extrusion facility is a bold leap towards India’s journey towards becoming a leader in the global tech supply chain. Simultaneously, for Apple, this initiative identifies its strategy to diversify and strengthen its sourcing and manufacturing operations across India. It will cut down manufacturing overheads significantly while reducing reliance on other regions for supplying aluminium products. It reflects a convergence of India’s industrial growth and Apple’s global strategy for supply chain security.
