The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative has certified Gränges’ casting and rolling facility in Shanghai, China, against its Chain of Custody Standard Certification. This makes the world-renowned aluminium technology company achieve the second ASI certification.
In July 2019, Gränges facility, which produces aluminium strips and plates for the automotive industry, had bagged the ASI Performance Standard Certification.
Today, Gränges announced the achievement of Chain of Custody Standard Certification for the plant, of which operations include direct chill casting, hot rolling, cold rolling, and finishing with an annual production capacity of 120 kt.
Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI, said: “We congratulate Gränges on the achievement of its second Chain of Custody Standard Certification. The constantly increasing focus on the environmental and social credentials of products, particularly in the automotive sector, means that the sourcing of responsibly produced aluminium is gaining in importance. Gränges’ CoC Certification gives its downstream users of aluminium strips and plates the possibility to source materials that meet the industry’s highest ESG standards.”
Colin Xu, President of Gränges Asia, said: “I’m very proud that we now can offer our customers ASI-certified aluminium which provides assurance to our customers and other business partners that we are strongly committed to meeting the increased demand for responsibly produced aluminium and that we promote and drive responsible and sustainable practices along the aluminium value chain, says Colin Xu, President Gränges Asia.”
The independent, third-party audit of the Gränges Shanghai was carried out by DNV Business Assurance Services UK Ltd.
