Downstream aluminium weekly: FIA approved Constellium’s Aheadd® partners with PWR to develop new strains for 3D-printing

The downstream aluminium sector has been subjected to various new updates to introduce more sustainability into the material loop. The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has attested to using Constellium’s Aheadd® CP1 aluminium alloy in manufacturing F1 racing cars to be launched in the 2024 season. PWR, an ASX-listed automotive cooling solutions provider, has collaborated with Constellium to use the latter’s expertise to develop various other strains of Aheadd® aluminium alloy strains applicable in additive manufacturing. Press Metal has planned the expansion of its Klang plant at Selangor to meet the rising demand for solar panels internationally.

Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the regulatory body governing the Formula 1 (F1) and other worldwide motorsports, has authorised Constellium’s Aheadd® CP1 aluminium alloy for use in F1 racing cars starting in the 2024 season.

According to the US Census Bureau data, the United States’ aluminium crude metals and alloys imports during February 2023 amounted to 238,000 tonnes, reflecting a plunge of 22.48 per cent from a month ago. In January, the import volume was 307,000 tonnes after being plummeted by 20.88 per cent from 388,000 tonnes in December 2022.

It has been reported that Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd is about to expand its extrusion capacity in its Klang plant at Selangor to suffice the rising demand for solar panels.
