
According to the US Census Bureau data, the United States’ aluminium crude metals and alloys imports during February 2023 amounted to 238,000 tonnes, reflecting a plunge of 22.48 per cent from a month ago. In January, the import volume was 307,000 tonnes after being plummeted by 20.88 per cent from 388,000 tonnes in December 2022.

Thus, the above data indicate the United States aluminium crude metals and alloys imports fell back-to-back at the beginning of the year.
On an annual basis, the United States imports of aluminium crude metals and alloys in February’23 stood 9.16 per cent lower than 262,000 tonnes.
In the first two months of the year, the United States imported 545,000 tonnes of aluminium crude metals and alloys versus 605,000 tonnes during the same period of the previous year. That reflected a year-on-year decline of 9.92 per cent.
Canada, being the largest supplier of aluminium crude metals and alloys to the United States, exported 160,000 tonnes in February 2023. That recorded a downfall of 30.43 per cent or 70,000 tonnes from 230,000 tonnes in January and a drop of 5.33 per cent or 9,000 tonnes from 169,000 tonnes in February 2022.
In two months, Canada exported 390,000 tonnes of the metal; however, up by 7.73 per cent from 362,000 tonnes a year earlier.
The United Arab Emirates, the second-largest supplier of aluminium crude metals and alloys to the US, exported 25,500 tonnes in February 2023, down by 29.95 per cent month-on-month from 36,400 tonnes but up by 5.81 per cent year-on-year from 24,100 tonnes.
During January-February, the UAE exported 61,900 tonnes, which reflected an increase of 11.13 per cent from 55,700 tonnes during the corresponding period of the last year.
