Boeing approves Quaker Houghton’s coolant for aerospace aluminium alloys

Quaker Houghton has strengthened its position in the aerospace manufacturing sector by securing Boeing BAC 5008 approval for its Hocut 4260 metalworking coolant, expanding its portfolio of certified solutions for machining aluminium alloys and other high-performance aerospace materials.

The approval reinforces the product’s suitability for critical aerospace production, where manufacturers require high-performance coolant technologies that improve machining efficiency, extend tool life and comply with stringent environmental standards.

Hocut 4260 at a glance

Hocut 4260 has been developed as a heavy-duty, boron-free and formaldehyde-free metalworking fluid specifically for aerospace applications. It is engineered for machining 2000- and 7000-series aluminium alloys, fibre composites, titanium alloys, and other high-temperature materials commonly used across the aviation industry.  

The coolant enables manufacturers to machine and grind multiple aerospace materials with a single fluid, simplifying production operations. Its specialised additive package is designed to minimise tool wear and improve machining performance, while high detergency keeps components, equipment and workspaces cleaner during processing.

The product offers longer sump life, helping reduce maintenance, labour requirements and fluid disposal costs.

Moreover, its low-foaming formulation supports high-speed and high-pressure machining across varying water-hardness conditions. From an environmental, health and safety perspective, Hocut 4260 is formulated without boron, formaldehyde, chlorine, secondary amines or phenol, aligning with increasingly stringent sustainability requirements in aerospace manufacturing.

Hocut 4260 is recognised by Airbus, BAE Systems, Bombardier, Pratt & Whitney, Rolls-Royce and Safran. The Boeing certification extends its already extensive list of aerospace approvals, thereby expanding Quaker Houghton’s footprint in the aerospace aluminium value chain, especially for manufacturers processing high-strength aluminium components.
