Jaguar has unveiled the Type 01, the first model built on its new Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA), and it is not exactly arriving quietly. With 73% aluminum, a 118kWh battery, three electric motors and a rather serious 1,015 horsepower (hp), the new electric grand tourer is Jaguar’s answer to a simple question: what happens when a century-old luxury carmaker decides to start over? MEC to invest $26m in New Georgia’s metal fabrication facility, adding 140 jobs
Mayville Engineering Company (MEC) plans to invest around $26 million in a metal fabrication facility. The facility is in Thomson, Georgia, USA. The project is expected to create about 140 jobs. MEC also provides aluminum extrusion services. MEC will renovate the existing building at 1048 Superior Way in Thomson for the facility. The renovation and equipment work will take place over the next few years. Rio Tinto-RevoCast deal links Kitimat aluminum to new North American billet supply chain
Rio Tinto is connecting its Kitimat aluminum production with a new British Columbia-based supply chain through a long-term agreement with RevoCast Aluminum Billets Ltd., under which aluminum from BC Works will be combined with recycled aluminum to produce billet for North American manufacturers. Announced on September 28, the agreement gives Rio Tinto exclusive marketing rights for aluminum billet produced at RevoCast’s newly commissioned Langley casting facility. Small businesses await US tariff refunds as shipping firms process claims
Small businesses are facing delays in receiving refunds for tariffs struck down by the US Supreme Court, with companies that paid duties through shipping firms such as FedEx, DHL and UPS waiting longer to recover their money. Asher Rapkin, owner of California watch retailer Collective Horology, said he submitted paperwork in March to recover USD 164,000 in tariffs but did not receive any money until September. He initially received a USD 59,200 wire transfer without an explanation of which transactions had been refunded. US aluminum scrap imports jump to 580kt in H1 2026; Canada leads with 64% share
The US aluminum industry is becoming increasingly dependent on aluminum scrap, with the Aluminum Association noting that 85% of aluminum produced in the US comes from secondary sources. Against this backdrop, US imports of aluminum scrap have continued to rise year-on-year. During January-June, or the first half (H1) of 2026, the US imported 580,000 metric tons of aluminum scrap, valued at $2.07 billion. Mexico is approaching the final stages of negotiations with the United States on reducing tariffs on aluminum and steel products, with officials indicating that a deal could significantly lower the effective tariff burden on Mexican exporters. Luis Rosendo Gutiérrez, Mexico’s undersecretary of foreign trade, said talks had made progress during the National Auto Parts Industry congress. Discussions covering the automotive sector are targeting a 15% tariff, which could fall to an effective rate of around 4% to 5% after deductions linked to regional value content.
