Canada’s recycled aluminium sector: Key initiatives since 2021
Canada is using a mix of federal funding, provincial recycling rules and private investment to build a stronger market for recycled aluminium. Over the past five years, policy changes and new projects have improved scrap collection, added remelting capacity and reinforced the country’s position as a low-carbon aluminium hub. According to SMM's weekly premium assessment as of August 28, 2026, 6063 aluminium billet premiums in Southeast Asia remained stable overall in August. Premiums for homogenized aluminium billet in Cambodia were maintained at USD 275-325 per tonne, with a midpoint of USD 300per tonne; premiums for homogenised aluminium billet in Malaysia were maintained at USD 250-275 per tonne, with a midpoint of USD 262.5 per tonne. UK aluminium recycling growth depends on access to global markets
The UK will struggle to build a resilient circular aluminium economy if protectionist trade measures restrict access to recycled metal markets and overseas processing capacity, according to Tom Bird, executive chairman at Enicor.
