A new 10-inch aluminium extrusion press is now operational at Sharvaya Metals Limited’s Ahilyanagar facility, following its commissioning on October 5, 2026. The new press completes the company’s production process from alloy production to finished components. The new facility allows Sharvaya to serve sectors including defence, aerospace, railways, electric vehicles, and engineering. Rio Tinto-RevoCast deal links Kitimat aluminum to new North American billet supply chain
Rio Tinto is connecting its Kitimat aluminum production with a new British Columbia-based supply chain through a long-term agreement with RevoCast Aluminum Billets Ltd., under which aluminum from BC Works will be combined with recycled aluminum to produce billet for North American manufacturers. Announced on September 28, the agreement gives Rio Tinto exclusive marketing rights for aluminum billet produced at RevoCast’s newly commissioned Langley casting facility. The operation combines primary aluminum from BC Works with recycled aluminum processed by RevoCast. Aluminium billet inventory consolidates at highs; production cuts and aluminium price pullback lead to regional divergence in processing fees
According to SMM statistics, on September 30, aluminium billet inventory in major consuming regions in China stood at 149,500 tonnes, up 500 tonnes WoW from last Thursday and down 5,000 tonnes from this Monday, with inventory consolidating at highs and basically flat overall. On a year-over-year basis, inventory was about 35,000 tonnes higher than the same period in 2025 and about 41,000 tonnes higher than the same period in 2024, with total inventory still at the highest level for the same period in the past four years. From the perspective of warehouse withdrawals, aluminium billet withdrawals from September 21 to September 28 totalled 44,800 tonnes, holding near 45,000 tonnes for two consecutive weeks. Inventory changes of aluminium ingots and billets around the 2026 National Day
According to SMM statistics, changes in aluminium ingot and aluminium billet (collectively referred to as aluminium inventory) inventories in major consumption areas in China around the National Day holiday, 2020-2026: overall destocking before the holiday, with the most concentrated inventory buildup during the holiday. During the one-week National Day holiday from 2020 to 2025, aluminium ingots, aluminium billets, and total aluminium inventory all saw inventory buildup (aluminium ingots up 4.0 per cent -17.3 per cent, aluminium billets up 12.7 per cent -66.0 per cent, total aluminium inventory up 6.9 per cent -21.2 per cent ). Rio Tinto to market RevoCast’s low-carbon aluminium billet from new British Columbia facility
RevoCast’s newly commissioned aluminum billet facility in British Columbia is set to supply more low-carbon extrusion material to North American manufacturers through a new agreement with Rio Tinto. The Langley plant, which began operations in August 2026, can produce more than 80,000 metric tons of 6xxx-series aluminum billet annually. Under the agreement, Rio Tinto will exclusively market the billet, which combines low-carbon primary aluminum produced using hydropower at Rio Tinto’s Kitimat operations with recycled aluminum processed by RevoCast. 1. Macro perspective The US-Iran conflict entered its second week. After the escort coalition intervened, traffic through the Strait of Hormuz partially recovered, but war risk insurance rates remained elevated. Brent crude pulled back from a high of USD 101 to consolidate around USD 95, with energy cost support weakening from earlier levels but not yet fading. The US Fed delivered a 25bp rate hike at its September FOMC meeting, and the dot plot indicated one more hike may still occur this year. Chair Warsh struck a hawkish tone in his post-meeting remarks, and the US dollar index held at a 13-month high. China aluminium billet inventory eases slightly, processing fees rebound as prices fall
According to SMM statistics, as of September 17, aluminium billet inventory in major domestic consumption areas recorded 152,500 tonnes, down 500 tonnes from last Thursday (September 10) and down 5,000 tonnes from this Monday (September 14). The persistent upward trend in inventory since mid-August has shifted slightly, turning into a modest pullback from highs. On a Y-o-Y basis, inventory was approximately 17,500 tonnes higher than the same period in 2025, about 31,000 tonnes higher than 2024, and roughly 61,000 tonnes higher than 2023, with total inventory still at the highest level for the same period over the past four years.
