According to SMM report this week, aluminium billet inventories in China recorded an increase of 6,500 tonnes across five major consumption areas to come in at 145,500 tonnes on Thursday, September 9. The rise could be attributed to the muted downstream purchase caused by soaring aluminium prices. In addition, arrivals of stocks increased against sluggish orders at extrusion companies.

Vedanta Limited expanded its aluminium products prices by INR 4,250 per tonne on Thursday September 9, bringing its aluminium wire rod price to INR 244,500-252,000 per tonne. On Friday, September 10, Vedanta’s aluminium wire rod price again saw a hike of INR 3,500 per tonne to come in at INR 248,000-255,500 per tonne.
As per Vedanta’s report, its aluminium billet price grew from INR 240,750 per tonne on September 7 to INR 245,000 per tonne on September 9, which further expanded the very next day by INR 3,500 per tonne to close at INR 248,500 per tonne.
European Aluminium Association, the voice of the European aluminium value chain, stood against the 9-month suspension of the anti-dumping duties on Chinese flat rolled products, claiming the suspension could create a negative impact on the EU industries beyond aluminium.
The association also stated that around ten thousand of EU jobs, along with hundred million of euros in the recycling investment and decarbonisation might get affected. Besides, the suspension of the duties could lead to less production capacity of aluminium in the European Union, fears European Aluminium.
The Ministry of Commerce, Govt. of India's investigation arm DGTR has recommended the imposition of anti-dumping duty on certain aluminium products from China to safeguard domestic producers from cheap imports.
The dumped imports of 'Certain Flat-Rolled Products of Aluminium' from China have impacted the domestic aluminium industry, as concluded in its probe by the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR).
