In a regulatory filing, Vedanta confirmed that on February 27, 2026, the company was notified of the “Declaration of Preferred Bidder” from the Directorate of Mines and Geology, Government of Odisha.
The tender process for the mining lease auction was initiated through a Notice Inviting Tender, dated December 4, 2025. As reported in the tender document, the Karnapodikonda block, spanning 532.747 hectares, is categorised on the G2 exploration level.
Having qualified in the initial bidding stage, Vedanta secured the preferred bidder status in the following live e-auction.
Vedanta clarified that the acquisition complements its strategy for backward integration for its aluminium business, reinforcing the security of long-term bauxite resources and improving supply stability.
