U.S aluminium scrap import reaches 739 mln lbs while exports dip 11% YoY in April

<p>According to aluminium recycling statistics published by the U.S. Geological Survey, Department of Interior, the U.S. aluminium industry purchased an estimated 739 million pounds of aluminium scrap during April 2016, up three-tenths of one percent over the April 2015 total of 737 million.</p> <p>The U.S. exports of scrap, not included in the government&rsquo;s consumption statistics, totalled 894 million pounds YTD, down 11.1 percent from the same period in 2015.</p> <p><img style="display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" src="http://www.alcircle.com/uploads/images/US%20Scrap%201%20-%2024.7.16.png" alt="" width="482" height="282" /></p> <p>According to the statistics derived from customs data released by the U.S. and Canadian governments, imports of aluminium ingot, including scrap and mill products into the U.S. and Canada (excluding cross-border trade) totalled 650 million pounds in May 2016, up 14.9 percent over the May 2015 total of 566 million pounds. Including scrap, which accounted for roughly 47 percent of reported aluminium exports in May, exports totalled 578 million pounds, up 8.5 percent from a year ago.</p> <p>Excluding scrap, exports totalled 309 million pounds, up 32.1 percent over last year. Exports of scrap decreased 10.0 percent year-over-year. Through the first five months of 2016, total imports were up 11.1 percent to 3,136 million pounds while exports were up 1.1 percent to 2,492 million pounds.</p> <p><img style="display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" src="http://www.alcircle.com/uploads/images/US%20Scrap%202.jpg" alt="" width="504" height="294" /></p>
