Aluminium posts 'another storming quarter' from April-June, reports latest recycling data

EDITED BY : DIPANWITA GUPTA 2MINS READ

Aluminium along with a host of other industrial materials posted a healthy recycling performance in the quarter ended June 2016, revealed provisional data released by the Environment Agency on July 22.

The statistics, made available on the National Packaging Database, reflect how much packaging waste made it to the recycling system between April and June 2016. The data also gives an indication of how buoyant the packaging recovery note (PRN) market is likely to be into the second half of the year, and how far packaging producers have come in meeting their overall recycling demand during the period.

News

Aluminium looks pretty much on track to meet the overall packaging recycling target set for the year.

According 360 Environmental director and ACP chair Phil Conran, aluminium has had a phenomenal quarter and is all set to “well exceed” demand for the year. Figures published for the material on Friday indicate that 22,156 tonnes of aluminium packaging were recycled in Q2.

The lightmetal, which as packaging medium finds use in a wide range of end user industries, has benefited from changes to protocols adopted by the Environment Agency in 2015.
