Indus Aluminium Recyclers Limited returned to profitability in the half year ended September 30, 2026, reporting a net profit of INR 1.73 million (USD 18,300), compared with a loss of INR 20 million (USD 211,900) in the corresponding period last year. The turnaround came despite a decline in revenue, as a substantial reduction in reported expenses helped improve the company's financial performance.

Revenue from operations slipped to INR 129 million (USD 1.37 million) from INR 134.3 million (USD 1.42 million) in the first half of the previous financial year. However, total expenses declined to INR 129.4 million (USD 1.37 million) from INR 161.7 million (USD 1.71 million), allowing the company to move back into profit.

Sharp reduction in other expenses supports profitability

The most significant change in the company's expense structure was recorded under other expenses, which fell sharply to INR 0.77 million (USD 8,200) from INR 30.6 million (USD 324,200) in the corresponding period last year. This reduction accounted for most of the overall decline in expenses.

Purchases of stock in trade, the company's largest disclosed cost, also decreased during the reporting period. However, the financial-results statement does not provide a detailed explanation for the substantial reduction in other expenses, making it difficult to establish precisely what drove the improvement.

The company reported a profit before tax of INR 2.66 million (USD 28,200), reversing a pre-tax loss of INR 29.4 million (USD 311,400) in the year-earlier period. After accounting for tax expenses, its first-half net profit stood at INR 1.73 million.

September-quarter profit improves year on year

For the quarter ended September 30, 2026, Indus Aluminium Recyclers reported a net profit of INR 0.87 million (USD 9,200), compared with INR 0.50 million (USD 5,300) in the corresponding quarter of 2025.

Revenue from operations declined to INR 58.4 million (USD 618,600) from INR 62.9 million (USD 666,300). Nevertheless, lower expenses helped the company improve its quarterly profitability.

Financial position and operating cash flow

Indus Aluminium Recyclers generated INR 9.27 million (USD 98,200) in cash from operating activities during the first half, compared with a marginal cash outflow in the corresponding period last year. The latest operating cash flow included higher trade payables and advances from customers, alongside an increase in trade receivables.

The company operates as a single-segment entity under Indian Accounting Standard 108 (Ind AS 108) and therefore did not provide separate disclosures for individual business segments.

The Board approved the unaudited standalone financial results on November 4, 2026, following their review by the Audit Committee, and took on record the limited-review report issued by the statutory auditors. For the financial year ended March 31, 2026, the company had reported revenue of INR 196.5 million (USD 2.08 million) and a net loss of INR 22.2 million (USD 235,200).

Indus Aluminium Recyclers' return to first-half profitability marks a notable improvement over its performance a year earlier. However, the recovery has come alongside lower revenue and a significant reduction in reported expenses. The absence of a detailed explanation for the fall in other expenses leaves an important question about the nature of the improvement, while subsequent financial results will indicate whether the company can sustain its return to profitability.
