UC RUSAL, the leading global aluminium producer, announces its operating results for the third quarter 2016. In the bauxite segment, the company reports substantial growth in bauxite output in Q3 as well as the first nine months.
In Q3, 2016, bauxite output totaled 3,211 thousand tonnes which recorded an increase of 2.7% from the last quarter. The growth was mostly from improved performance by the Russian bauxite mines at North Urals and Timan. Both these mines recorded a total production growth of 8.9% from the last quarter. Production from the Bauxite Company of Guyana also increased by 15.1% sequentially as the scheduled repairs which negatively affected production in the second quarter were completed this quarter.
The rest of the Rusal bauxite operations recorded a negative performance majorly due to the change in the current production plan and the ongoing scheduled repairs. The Alpart mine is currently under review ahead of completion of the disposal transaction. Because of that operations are currently postponed.
