Sustainable mining spotlight: NALCO’s Panchpatmali wins 2025-26 environment award
National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) has received the Abheraj Baldota Environment Award 2025-26 for environmental protection and sustainable mining practices at its Panchpatmali Bauxite Mines in Koraput, Odisha. The recognition comes as sustainable mining and environmental management gain greater significance across India’s mineral and aluminium value chain. The award was presented during the 60th Annual General Meeting of the Federation of Indian Mineral Industries (FIMI) in New Delhi on September 22, 2026. 18 Jamaican students return from Russia with engineering degrees, ready for mining careers
Eighteen Jamaican students have returned home after completing engineering degrees in Russia, bringing new technical skills back to the country’s bauxite and mining sector. Metro Mining achieves record 1.8m WMT Q2 bauxite shipments despite cyclone disruption
Metro Mining has reported record quarterly bauxite shipments for the three months ended June 30, 2026, despite operational disruptions caused by Tropical Cyclone Narelle and the temporary dry-docking of its Offshore Floating Terminal (OFT) Ikamba. The company shipped 1.8 million wet metric tonnes (WMT) of bauxite during the quarter, up 7 per cent from the corresponding period of 2025, while maintaining its full-year shipment guidance of 6.6-7.1 million WMT. During the first half (H1) of 2026, Guinea exported a record 114.8 million tonnes of bauxite, marking a 15 per cent year-on-year increase.
