Aluminum Dynamics, one of the largest economic development projects in western Lowndes County, owned by Steel Dynamics (SDI), broke ground on Tuesday, March 7. The 2.5 billion aluminium mill project is expected to begin operations by the summer of 2025.

With the construction of this aluminium mill, the residents of the Golden Triangle and the surrounding areas will be the most benefited. Almost 800 Mississippians can apply for high-paying employment at Aluminum Dynamics in roughly 24 to 36 months. Business executives and government officials predicted that the aluminium mill would have a snowball impact the economy and education. The pay might exceed six digits. There will also be rewards for select employees who send their children to college. This is one strategy lawmakers seek to address the state's brain drain problem.
The talks about this much-awaited project were already carried out in November 2022, when Gov. Tate Reeves and the Mississippi Legislature had finalized the construction of one of the greatest economic development projects of Lowndes County. The Mississippi House and Senate had also approved the tax incentives for the companies' expansion in the Golden Triangle.
According to Mark Millet, the CEO of SDI, the main reason the company decided to relocate the aluminium mill to this nation's area is due to the beverage, automotive, and other sectors. He said that the people were why the business chose Mississippi when we questioned him about it. Millet added that the lack of aluminium supplies in the United States forces many American companies to look for the material abroad.
