The German economy experienced a lacklustre performance in the second quarter of 2023, falling short of expectations for a slight expansion. China Hongqiao Group has moved 1.5 million tonnes of aluminium smelting capacity to Yunnan, a region with abundant hydropower. Going ahead, China Hongqiao Group aims to deploy 4 million tonnes of aluminium smelting capacity by the end of 2025 in Yunan to leverage the availability of renewable energy. China Hongqiao Group aims to shift 2 million tonnes of capacity to Yunnan from northern Shandong province by the end of 2023 and to move 4 million tonnes by the end of 2025.
Exlabesa has recently acquired Flandria Aluminium, a French company that has expertise in extrusion, machining, surface treatment, and recycling of aluminium profiles. This acquisition is part of Exlabesa's international expansion strategy, which aims to expand its direct presence in France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. This will enable the company to offer high-value-added products with the highest level of service in these markets.

In a Series C funding round, Sortera Technologies, Inc., a company that offers artificial intelligence data analytics for recycling, secured a stunning $30.5 million. The primary investor leading this round is RA Capital Management-Planetary Health, and the participation includes certain funds and accounts advised by T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc., as well as the Mineral Resources Group, a division of Mitsubishi Corporation's Business Incubation Unit, and Macquarie GIG Energy Transition Solutions ("MGETS").
