On Monday, June 7, Aluminium Stewardship Initiative announced that it successfully certified Kaiser Aluminum against the Performance Standard Certification with Provisional status. Kaiser has achieved the certification for its ingot casting centres, rolling mills, and finishing production centres in Warrick County, Indiana, USA.

The Warrick rolling mill, one of four dedicated can sheet mills in North America, produces approximately 310,000 metric tonnes of flat rolled aluminium annually for the packaging industry like food containers, aluminium cans, and bottles.
The plant has received Provisional Certification under the ASI Interim Policy regarding Audits, Audit-Related Travel and Coronavirus, which clarifies the reasonable accommodations that can be made to audit plans in consideration of the current COVID-19 situation.
Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI, said: “We warmly congratulate Kaiser Aluminum for achieving ASI Performance Standard Certification. The acquisition of the Warrick Operations has provided Kaiser Aluminum with entry into the North American aluminium packaging industry, an end market with a strong focus on sustainability. We look forward to increasing growth of ASI Certifications in the United States’ aluminium sector.”
Keith A. Harvey, President and Chief Executive Officer at Kaiser Aluminum, said: “This is a very important milestone for our Warrick facility and for our customers, as we continue to support the growing sustainability trends and secular shift to aluminum in the beverage and food packaging industry.”
He added, “At Kaiser Aluminum, we recognize that long-term excellence requires sustainable practices. Achieving the ASI certification reflects our commitment as a strong and proactive member of the industry to foster improvement in sustainability and promote responsible and sustainable practices throughout the aluminum value chain.”
The independent, third-party audit of the Kaiser Aluminum plant was carried out by ERM CVS.
