Dominican Republic eyes US$320 million in ten years from bauxite exports
Dominican Republic will receive US$40 million in one year of the more than US$320 million projected for the next 10 years, as bauxite exports resume from Cabo Rojo, Pedernales province, to North America and China.

The mine will export 90,000 tons of ore monthly, of which around 13,700 are ready to ship for use by cement makers, said Ramon Chaljub, head of mining and hauling of the company NOVAMAINI.

He estimates one million tons in exports yearly through the miner Virgen de la Altagracia, which together with Chaljub will produce the material from mines located around 20 kilometers north of Cabo Rojo Port.

The exports will provide an estimated US$4.0 million in government revenue yearly from Cementos Andino, in addition to US$1.5 million for use of the harbor facilities, with another yet to be determined monthly fee paid to operators, workers, maintenance and other services.

In a gathering with local media company executives affirmed that the economically depressed community of Pedernales will receive RD$1.6 billion from the hauling of bauxite and operations over the next 10 years, and an estimated US$320 million for the country and the South region during that same period.
