USA-based Constellium has extended its hands for a material supply collaboration with Morf3D, Inc., a subsidiary of Nikon located in El Segundo, California. Constellium’s Aheadd® CP1 aluminium powder will be provided for use in SLM®500 AM machines from Nikon SLM Solutions.

Headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, Constellium is a brilliant innovator in the additive manufacturing industry. The company’s proprietary Aheadd® CP1 metal powder has set new heights in the precision engineering department for 3D-printed aluminium components.
The partnership aims to meet the growing demand for large-format Additive Manufacturing, and the focus of this collaboration is on a specific variant of Aheadd CP1 aluminium powder that is designed to enhance production throughput.
The Head of Constellium Additive Manufacturing, Dr Alireza Arbab, stated: “Thanks to Morf3D and other customers using powerful platforms, we have now proven that the excellent processability of Aheadd CP1 powder enables to develop more optimised particle size distribution for customers who wish to lower the powder cost and increase the printing productivity for their specific applications.”
The CTO of Morf3D, Dr Behrang Poorganji, commented: “Our partnership with Constellium holds immense importance in advancing the development and qualification of advanced aluminium alloy for Additive Manufacturing, now particularly in the context of the SLM 500 platform. Together, we are pioneering the development and qualification of CP1 aluminium alloy to unlock new potential for lightweight, high-performance components such as heat exchangers produced by AM innovations.”
“The utilisation of CP1 aluminium alloy on the SLM 500 platform and future larger-size platforms promises to revolutionise our industry by offering enhanced design flexibility and material properties, ultimately pushing the boundaries of what’s achievable in Additive Manufacturing using aluminium alloys,” Dr Poorganji also explained.
