BUA bauxite mining project inspection

THE inspection of the progress of work at the bauxite mining project in Bua will be conducted tomorrow by the Department of Mineral Resources.
Director Mineral Resources Malakai Finau said yesterday officials would visit the site at Nawailevu for inspection of the jetty and the digging of the bauxite.
The bauxite already dug up is being stockpiled for the first shipment to China.
Mr Finau said the bauxite would be loaded onto a barge for further process in China.
It is not clear when the bauxite will leave Fiji but Mr Finau said a mineral export permit would be issued first.
The barge arrived in Vanua Levu last weekend and is anchored at Malau, outside Labasa town.
