Bauxite mining big issue in Agency area: AP Speaker

Araku Valley (Visakhapatnam), Jan 10 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker, N Manohar, today assured that he would take up the issue of bauxite mining in Agency area of Visakhapatnam district with the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. Speaking at an orientation programme `Girijan Development-Government welfare schemes for the first-time state legislators here, Manohar said bauxite mining was the biggest issue in the Agency area and it would be discussed in the Assembly.
The local tribals are opposed to the bauxite mining, fearing ecological problems and loss of livelihood. Manohar, on this occasion, also announced release of funds from the Constituency Development Fund for the Girijan areas in the district. The Assembly was conducting such an orientation programme for the first time, the Speaker noted. Actor-turned politician Chiranjeevi arrived here today and took part in the orientation programme.
