Bauxite mining quota

AURUM Exploration (Fiji) Limited is contracted to dig one million tonnes of bauxite soil from the Nawailevu lands, says the permanent secretary for Mineral Resources, Filimone Kau.,br>
"The total volume the contractor is to supply is one million tonnes of bauxite," Mr Kau said.
"The tax and concession issues have been resolved and we will be ready to kick start the operation as soon as the equipment is delivered."
Mr Kau said the number of shipment would depend on the capacity of the ship.
He added that experts to operate the bauxite mining area would be brought in from China while 150 locals would be employed for work on ground level.
"No locals have been employed at this stage. The machines are expected to reach our shores by July 16 after which we will be able to start with the groundwork. "The Chinese company received its licence on May 13 and mining is expected to begin within a few months," he said.
