Researchers at Trinity College Dublin are testing a new type of concrete made using red mud, a residue from alumina refining. Germany’s aluminium foil export market is showing a shift after two years of steady recovery. The upward trend that had returned after the 2023 downturn failed to hold, with shipments slipping again even as some markets continued to show resilience in H1 2026. The change becomes clearer when the recent history is put together. Germany exported 151,000 tonnes in H1 2022, but the volume dropped to 138,000 tonnes in H1 2023, down 8.6 per cent. US tariffs on aluminum are raising the cost of beer cans in Canada, putting pressure on breweries that rely on a closely linked cross-border supply chain. Walkerville Brewery in Windsor, Ontario, have so far avoided passing the higher costs on to customers. However, owner Mike Brkovich said the brewery may have to raise prices in the next three or four months as costs continue to increase. He said, “We’re going to have to increase the prices, I think, in the next three or four months. But we’re trying to hold the prices.” One of the clearest impacts is on aluminum cans.
