Automation, plant design & material flow leads to more profit in AL extrusion: The Cometal stance
The aluminium industry has been fighting on multiple fronts. Energy prices have surged. Carbon regulations are tightening. Labour shortages persist across manufacturing hubs. Meanwhile, customers are demanding shorter lead times, better quality and greater traceability — often simultaneously. Yet amid all these pressures, one issue is quietly separating industry leaders from the rest and that is efficiency. In today's market, every unplanned stoppage, every handling delay and every percentage point of yield loss carries a measurable cost. When margins are under pressure, profitability is increasingly determined not by how much aluminium a producer can make, but by how efficiently they can make it. To know about the safety and productivity of autonomous furnace tending in aluminium cast...
Join this FREE webinar to discover how autonomous furnace tending is transforming aluminium cast houses
Globally, the aluminium cast houses continue to face challenges like safety incidents, inconsistent metal quality, labour shortage and rising operating costs. Because of these challenges, producers are now racing to modernise their operations and in this, autonomous furnace tending is deemed to be rising as the most practical technology. Via this technology, producers will be able to improve safety, enhance productivity and have greater metal yield, all without compromising operational efficiency. However, in this scenario, the main question is not about whether automation will become part of aluminium casting operations, but about whether your organisation will adopt it before the competition gains the advantage. Owing to that, AL Circle with the Sales Director at RIA Cast House...

Aluminium Casthouse Technologies scoops award for import-export model in volatile global climate
A British family firm which makes pioneering products for improving aluminium manufacturing quality has scooped an award for its import-export model at a national business event. Aluminium Casthouse Technologies (ACT) won Best Import-Export Company of the Year at BizX 2026, hosted by TV presenter and sports anchor Kirsty Gallacher and attended by over 1,000 entrepreneurs and business leaders from across the UK and EMEA. The company, which manufactures its products in Canada and China, won over judges for keeping global stock deliveries of its eco-friendly fluxes and other casthouse solutions moving swiftly and efficiently in a volatile political climate, further hampered by severe tariffs on imports to the US. Aluminium grain refiner specialist MQP celebrates 25 years of innovation
Grain refiner specialist MQP is celebrating its 25 th anniversary with a range of new global customers and year-on-year production growth of 40 per cent. MQP has moved from trials to roll-outs of its Optifine grain refiner with both major groups and independent producers this year, resulting in significant growth. Using Optifine means casthouses have to add up to 85 per cent less product to their melts, helping aluminium producers become more efficient, improve operations and melt quality and meet their sustainability targets by reducing waste. Explore- Most accurate data to drive business decisions with 50+ reports across the value chain MQP chairman John Courtenay, who worked at senior level for Foseco Aluminium before founding MQP, said he “couldn’t be prouder”. I set up MQP 25 years...

Furnace weighing system now ‘self-learning’ to increase casthouse production and reduce short casts
A pioneering furnace weighing system from Aluminium Casthouse Technologies (ACT) is now ‘self-learning’ to achieve even higher production levels in casthouses. Knowing the correct weight of metal in the furnace is crucial to ensure slabs are consistently cast to the precise length ordered by the customer and the BatchPilot is used in casthouses worldwide to accurately measure furnace liquid metal weight. Determining exactly what is wanted aluminium and what is unwanted dross, it means casthouses don’t have to rely on visual estimates of furnace heel weight, which are notoriously unreliable. This often leads to short casts, overfilling of the furnace or potentially restricting the number of slabs cast, all hugely wasteful. ACT Director John Courtenay said: “We installed a BatchPilot in a...

“The opportunities in Asia are still tremendous if one compares the aluminium consumption per capita of different countries and regions,” Dr-Ing. Oliver Moos, Managing Director, CETAG – Casthouse Engineering and Technology AG
Oliver started his professional life as a mechanical draftsman at a leading supplier of casthouse equipment in 1985. He worked in various technical and commercial positions for the same company after further education at the University of Applied Sciences in Konstanz, Germany, and the University of Brasov in Romania. Oliver became the Managing Director of CETAG in 2016. With its small but dedicated workforce, CETAG provides consulting services, project management, site services, and equipment to the aluminium industry worldwide. AL Circle: Please brief us about your services and solutions to the aluminium casthouse. How do you help casthouse enhance production while reducing carbon emissions? Dr-Ing. BatchPilot furnace weighing system for increasing casthouse productivity and production gets major IT upgrade
A top-selling furnace weighing system from Aluminium Casthouse Technologies (ACT) is embracing the advance of Industry 4.0 with a major IT upgrade. The BatchPilot, an innovative technology used in casthouses worldwide to accurately measure furnace liquid metal weight and determine exactly what is wanted aluminium and unwanted dross, is now installed with the latest Siemens S7 central processing unit and software for an even more accurate online process data logging and more user-friendly smart screens. The upgrade of the Batchpilot system will, ultimately, allow customers to achieve greater gains in productivity, leading to even higher production levels at a time when the London Metal Exchange is rising sharply. Knowing the correct weight of metal in the furnace is crucial to ensure slabs...

Aluminium specialist MQP doubles Optifine grain refiner production capacity with STNM plant expansion
Aluminium specialist, MQP’s parent company has more than doubled the size of its plant to produce more of its high-efficiency grain refiner and raise the bar in manufacturing worldwide. The expansion of STNM’s state-of-the-art plant in Baoding, China, means MQP can now produce up to 39,000 tons a year of Optifine – which can improve melt quality by up to 70% and reduce casthouse costs by a half – an increase of 23,000 tons. STNM is one of the largest producers of master alloys in the world and now one of the biggest Al-Ti-B grain refiner production plants. Richard Courtenay, CEO said: “Demand for lightweight vehicles is a major factor behind aluminium market growth right now. However, the industry-wide problem of inconsistency in the efficiency of grain refiner on a global scale has...
