Zhenjiang Shipyard delivers two series of pusher and towing tugs used for bauxite mining in Guinea

Zhenjiang Shipyard has reportedly completed building two series of pusher and towing tugs for a bauxite mining project in Guinea, Africa, as of May 3, after returning to full production in April following slower production in Q1 2020 due to COVID19 restrictions.

In total, Zhenjiang Shipyard in Jiangsu province has completed 11 of those tugs, which are mainly used for bauxite mining in Guinea, part of China’s One Belt and One Road strategy of investment in ports, projects, and shipping.

With the delivery of Yi Tuo (Yick Tug) 206 and 207 on May 3, the shipyard completes the COSCO Shipping Bulk Co's tug building project of 11 pusher and towing tugs.

During March and April, Zhenjiang also tackled a backlog of five more 37-m pusher tugs Yi Tuo (Yick Tug) 103, 104, 203, 204, 205. Each of these has a breadth of around 14.4 metre, depth 5.1 metre, speed almost 12 knots, and bollard pull about 42 tonnes.

On April 28, the shipyard delivered an azimuth stern drive (ASD) tug, which is 37.5 metre long with 2,646 kW of power and 12.8 knots of speed, to Zhoushan Xinya Shipyard Co.
