Western Yilgarn expands bauxite assets and bolsters critical minerals outlook

Western Australia-based explorer Western Yilgarn NL has released new estimates that mark a notable lift in its bauxite inventory. The update follows the completion of two fresh resource assessments at the New Norcia and Cardea 3 projects, bringing the company’s total JORC-classified bauxite resources to about 244 million tonnes.
Growing potential of the critical minerals market
The company said that preliminary assays indicate trace occurrences of gallium and cobalt within the same geological corridor. Both elements are considered vital in modern electronics and renewable-energy technologies, giving Western Yilgarn an additional foothold in the critical minerals market.
According to industry analysts, the demand for low-carbon materials is increasing globally. As a result, companies like Western Yilgarn, which hold multi-metal portfolios, are getting in a better position to attract strategic partners.

Favourable location and infrastructure
Western Yilgarn’s projects span across the Darling Range, which is one of the largest bauxite belts and the powerhouse of long-running alumina operations. Simultaneously, the region’s proximity to export ports and other transport infrastructure offers it a significant logistical advantage, which facilitates future development in the supply-chain integration.
Presently, the firm is focused on exploration and project definition while exploring potential downstream opportunities related to alumina and associated minerals.
Fund raised for bauxite-galium project
The miner is also on track to advance its bauxite-galium project with the fund of AUD 698,000 (USD 460,680) raised through a placement of 17.45 million shares valued at AUD 0.04 (USD 0.0264) each. The money is parked for exploration, metallurgical testwork, and project development across key assets: Julimar West, Cardea 2 and 3, and New Norcia Bauxite-Gallium Projects.
