Australia emerged as a top newsmaker in the bauxite sector in the last week. Australian bauxite sector has seen major developments from business growth opportunity and a number of companies won contracts for the ongoing bauxite projects. Metallica appoints mining and haulage contractor for Urquhart Bauxite project

An Australian bauxite developer Metallica Minerals Limited (Metallica) announced that the company has appointed the LCR Group (LCR) to undertake all mining and haulage operations on behalf of the Joint Venture at the Urquhart Bauxite project. For this, its subsidiary has signed a schedule of rates contract with LCR.

Guinea finds in China a key growth market for its bauxite produce

Guinea is readying to step up its bauxite mining operations over the next three years, a leading industry journal reported, citing Guinea Mines Minister Abdoulaye Magassouba. Guinea aims at scaling its bauxite production to 33 million tonnes in the current financial year and raise it further to 60 million tonnes by 2020.

SCEE wins contracts for Rio Tinto’s Amrun bauxite project

Southern Cross Electrical Engineering (SCEE) has bagged two contracts for Rio Tinto’s Amrun bauxite project in Queensland. The company has received contracts worth a total of $25 million.The first subcontract was given by Civmec worth $20 million and the second contract was awarded by Decmil Group worth $5 million.

Australian Bauxite Ltd receives letter of intent for next shipment of Tasmanian bauxite

Australian Bauxite Limited announced that the company has received a letter of intent for a significant shipment of cement grade bauxite from its Bald Hill Bauxite mine, in Tasmania. The shipment date is expected to be early in the fourth quarter.

Queensland Parliament sees business and job growth in the domestic bauxite sector

Annastacia Palaszczuk, the Premier of Queensland has said in the parliament that stronger commodity prices have resulted in a rise in job creation in the coal exploration sector. Similarly, jobs in the copper, zinc and bauxite sector would also stabilize with the ramp up of existing projects and the commissioning of new projects. She referred to Rio Tinto’s Amrun bauxite project which is under development and is expected to revolutionize the bauxite/alumina sector in Queensland.
