
The US imports of crude metal and alloys rose 25.2% year-on-year to 308,000 tonnes in March 2021. The US had imported 246,000 tonnes in March 2020, according to the latest Mineral Industry Survey report from the US Geological Survey. Crude metal and alloys imports increased by 26.75% from February 2021’s imports of 243,000 tonnes.

The US imported 801,000 tonnes of crude metal and alloys in the first quarter of 2021, as compared to 740,000 tonnes in the first quarter of 2020. This marked a decrease of 8.24% or 61,000 tonnes.
On the export side, the US exported 19,500 tonnes of crude metal and alloys in March 2021, from 20,300 tonnes exported in March 2020. That was down 3.94% or 800 tonnes year-on-year.
On a month-on-month basis, the exports hiked by 27.45% or 4,200 tonnes from 15,300 tonnes.
In the first quarter of 2021, crude metal and alloys exports stood at 50,500 tonnes, representing a decrease of 9.66% year-on-year. The US had exported 55,900 tonnes in the first quarter of 2020.
