Talks continue between Hururu villagers and Rusal

Reports are that blockages to land and river accessed were being removed. Today, a team from the Ministries of Amerindian Affairs and Natural Resources and the Environment facilitated the dialogue. Region Ten Chairman Sharma Solomon also joined.
Just before the Village Council and company reached an agreement a week ago, several residents questioned the Council’s authority leading to the protest.
The company has said that if no agreement is reached its planned investment in the new mine at Korubutu will be jepardy along with 550 jobs.
The two ministries have urged that there be a win-win situation.
The discussions on the agreement are expected to continue tomorrow.
