
According to the recently published statistics from U.S. Geological Survey, Department of Interior, the U.S. aluminium industry purchased an estimated 347,452 tonnes of aluminium scrap during June 2017, off 1.8% from the June 2016 total of 353,348 million.


USA recovered 300,000 tonnes of aluminium from scrap in June, 4% less month-on-month and slightly off from the amount in June 2016. Of this amount, 170,000 t of aluminium was recovered from new scrap, 3% less than the amount in the preceding month, but slightly up from the amount in June 2016. Recovery from old scrap was 130,000 t, 5% less month-on-month and 4% less than the amount in June 2016.

According to the preliminary data from USGS, for the first half of 2017, the recovery of aluminium from scrap is estimated at 1.83 million tonnes, up 2.7% over the 2016 YTD total of 1.79 million tonnes. U.S. exports of scrap, not included in the government’s consumption statistics, stood at 737,087 tonnes through June, up 14% over 2016.
