Rio Tinto Q2 Global Iron Ore Production Rises 12% - Quick Facts

Rio Tinto,in its second-quarter 2011 operations review, reported global iron ore production of 49 million tonnes attributable for the period, which was up 12 percent compared with last year.
The company also noted that Mined coppee production was down 24 percent on the 2010 second quarter, mainly reflecting lower grades at Escondida and Kennecott Utah Copper; whereas Bauxite and Aluminium grew by 8 percent and 6 percent on the rain-impacted first quarter as the Queensland operations recovered.
Second-quarter 2011 Bauxite production rose by 11 percent versus the same period last year, while alumina and aluminium production were flat, Rio Tinto added.
