According to SMM survey statistics, the operating rate of the secondary aluminium alloy industry in September was 35.0 per cent, up 3.1 percentage points M-o-M but down 6.7 percentage points Y-o-Y. Industry production continued its recovery trend, but the overall operating level remained below the same period last year. India’s aluminium scrap imports from the United States slipped in May 2021 to come close to the import volume of March. According to the US Census Bureau data, India imported 29,600 tonnes of aluminium scrap from the US in May, which reflected a dip of 2.31 per cent month-on-month from 30,300 tonnes. In April, however, the import volume was up by 2.02 per cent from 29,700 tonnes in March. Podback has teamed up with ODS and Oxford City Council to allow residents to recycle their coffee pods using their kerbside recycling collection service. Oxford residents can recycle both plastic and aluminium coffee pods using free collection bags provided by Podback, which will commence on 9th August. Runaya announced that the company is in talks with Hindalco Industries and National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) for the establishment of an aluminium dross recycling plant. According to a recent report, Stora Enso and Tetra Pak will enter into a partnership to jointly provide circular solutions to the market. The partnership, that follows a comprehensive feasibility study, will introduce a large-scale carton repulping line at Stora Enso’s Ostroleka production unit in Poland, investing Euro 29.1 million in total. Stora Enso will invest Euro 17 million into a new repulping line that will recover carton fibres, while Tetra Pak will invest Euro 12.1 million to build an additional line to recover and separately recycle polymers and aluminium, using a patented separation technology.
