South Korea's imports of aluminium scrap from the US stood at 18,600 tonnes in May 2021, from 22,300 tonnes in May 2020. That marked a decrease of 17% year-on-year. On a monthly basis, imports declined by 15% from 21,900 tonnes in April 2021, as updated by the US Census Bureau.
For the first five months of 2021, South Korea imported 105,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap, from 120,000 tonnes imported for the first five months of 2020. That was down by 15,000 tonnes or 12.5% year-on-year.
South Korea's imports of total aluminium (semi-finished products, crude metals and alloy and scrap) from the US were 20,200 tonnes in May 2021, down by 15.48% from 23,900 tonnes in May 2020. Imports stood 13.3% lower from April 2021’s imports of 23,300 tonnes.
Total aluminium imports came in at 112,000 tonnes in the first five months of 2021, representing a decrease of 14.5% year-on-year. South Korea imported 131,000 tonnes of aluminium in the first five months of 2020.
