On 12th July, the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Torch relay commences in Japan, which will last for 13 days until the Games are due to commence on August 24.

The first five days will feature flame-lighting events in 43 prefectures of Japan to be lasting until August 16.
However, the celebrations will then be held in each of the co-hosting prefectures of Shizuoka, Chiba, Saitama and Tokyo in the following four days, before the flames from all 47 prefectures are gathered to create a single Paralympic Flame on Friday, 20th August 2021.
The Paralympic torch weighs 1.2 kg and around 30% of it is made from recycled aluminium used in the construction of prefabricated housing in the aftermath of the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami in 2011.

At Akasaka Palace, this gathering will be held and for the following four days, the relay will travel across all 62 municipalities in the Japanese capital.
The Torch will travel through Chuo City, Minato City and Hibuya on the final day, before arriving at the National Stadium for the Opening Ceremony.
The national flower of Japan, the cherry blossom or Sakura, represents a time of renewal and optimism is the inspiration behind the Paralympic torch, while the organisers quoted it is in line with the "Share Your Light" concept.
