According to SMM survey statistics, the operating rate of the secondary aluminium alloy industry in September was 35.0 per cent, up 3.1 percentage points M-o-M but down 6.7 percentage points Y-o-Y. Industry production continued its recovery trend, but the overall operating level remained below the same period last year. On the demand side, September marked the traditional peak consumption season, with downstream orders recovering from August. End-use demand from automobiles and other sectors improved marginally, but the peak season effect has yet to fully materialise. Hydro announced that its Rackwitz recycling plant will expand into production of the innovative HyForge forge stock segment. The new plant will start operations by end of first quarter 2023. Shawinigan Aluminum Inc. (SAI) rolls out its new aluminium recycling center. On 15 th September 2020, as announced SAI is investing $ 10 million to build a new aluminium recycling center that will recycle 30,000 metric tonnes of aluminium per year. The Norwegian aluminium company, Hydro’s Aluminium Metal unit has inked a letter of intent (LOI) to acquire land to develop a “state-of-the-art aluminium recycling plant” in Cassopolis, Michigan, that will produce aluminium extrusion ingot. The European company said: “The planned facility in Cassopolis, which is about 45 miles southwest of Kalamazoo, Michigan, represents a key step in Hydro’s ambition of doubling its recycling of post-consumer aluminium by 2025.
