In 2019, Mr Naveen Patnaik laid the founding stone of the Refining project, however, it is a spearheading facility for the treatment and processing of aluminium dross.

Speaking at the ceremony, Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister of Odisha said: “Odisha is fast emerging as the manufacturing hub of Eastern India and has enabled the growth of industries in the state. We have always endeavoured to provide a hassle-free and smooth business environment for the investors in Odisha. I congratulate everyone on this auspicious occasion and assure continued facilitation and support from the state government.”

Runaya secured the license for the unique development of processing technology from TAHA International, a multidiscipline solutions provider offering innovative, environmentally friendly and cost-effective services, equipment and products to the aluminium and steel industries worldwide.

The aluminium dross processing technology is being launched for the first time in South Asia. Presently, the challenges countered by the aluminium industry are especially handling, evacuation and disposal of dross in an environment-friendly manner and the Jharsuguda project will address this.

Frank Pollmann, owner and founder of Taha International said: “It is very encouraging to see the joint vision between TAHA International and Runaya Refining come to fruition. TAHA’s mission since its inception back in 2005 has always been to enable growth in the aluminium sector by providing innovative zero waste solutions.”

“Licensing our technology to Runaya was an important strategic initiative – to provide zero waste solutions, in addition to value-added products, for both the Indian and global markets.”

The dross processing facility is giving rise to a multi-level ecosystem which would further strengthen the capacity of the aluminium ancillary industry in Odisha and other regions of India.

Annanya Agarwal, Co-Founder & CEO, Runaya said, “Runaya aims to replace the linear economy model that the industry is currently following to pave the way for a circular economy model that is restorative. Through this pioneering technology, which ensures 100% utilization of waste, Runaya’s new facility at Odisha is disrupting the resources industry – currently, even the best practices in the industry can only process 50% of waste. Runaya’s breakthrough approach delivers a significant positive impact for the mining and metals industry.”
