
India’s aluminium scrap imports from the United States slipped in May 2021 to come close to the import volume of March. According to the US Census Bureau data, India imported 29,600 tonnes of aluminium scrap from the US in May, which reflected a dip of 2.31 per cent month-on-month from 30,300 tonnes. In April, however, the import volume was up by 2.02 per cent from 29,700 tonnes in March.

On a year-on-year calculation, India’s aluminium scrap imports from the US in May 2021 stood 606.44 per cent higher than 4,190 tonnes.
Total imports during January-May amounted to 141,000 tonnes, up by 27.03 per cent from 111,000 tonnes during the corresponding period of the last year.
The United States total aluminium scrap exports in May 2021 came in at 170,000 tonnes, down by 2,000 tonnes or 1.16 per cent from 172,000 tonnes in April 2021. But on a year-on-year basis, the exports edged 39.34 per cent higher than 122,000 tonnes.
During the first five months of the year, the United States aluminium scrap exports totalled 824,000 tonnes – 16.88 per cent higher than 705,000 tonnes a year ago.
