OMC steps up its focus on sustainable mining during the Koraput visit

EDITED BY : 3MINS READ

Odisha Mining Corporation’s (OMC) Managing Director, Shri Sudhansu Mohan Samal, has concluded a two-day tour of key mining locations in the Koraput district, utilising the visit to closely examine production performance, safety standards, and community development efforts associated with the company’s operations. The review covered two of OMC’s important sites, the Ampavalli Limestone Mine and the Kodingamali Bauxite Mine, with discussions centred on maintaining steady output while ensuring environmentally responsible and safe mining practices. This visit is the reflection of the corporation’s attempt to align industrial growth with the broader interests of the region.

The team of Shri Samal, during the tour, was accompanied by Director (Operations) Shri Sabyasachi Mohanty, Director (Finance) Shri Banabihari Pani, and Director (HR) Shri Alok Pal. At Ampavalli, the leadership team examined current production levels and operational processes, while also taking stock of safety arrangements on the ground. The Managing Director interacted with site personnel to understand day-to-day challenges and to reinforce the importance of strict adherence to safety and environmental norms.

The focus then moved to the Kodingamali Bauxite Mine on the second day, where Shri Samal was joined by Koraput Collector and District Magistrate Shri Manoj Satyawan Mahajan. The meeting centred on developing a five-year plan to strengthen production capacity and improve the dispatch of raw materials. Officials have also explored ways to align the mining activity with sustainable practices so that the increase of bauxite mining does not impact the surrounding ecology negatively.

Beyond operational reviews, the tour drew attention to OMC’s engagement with the communities in the surroundings. As a part of the plan, the CSR projects of the Laxmipur region were reviewed, which also covered the educational institutions, including Sanghana High School and ITI Laxmipur, alongside the local Maternity and Child Healthcare Centre. Shri Samal had also visited the Mini Sanitation park to evaluate the facilities of Solid Waste Management Unit, highlighting the corporation’s contribution to nourish local civic infrastructure.

The Koraput tour perfectly reflects OMC’s prime focus on responsible and environmentally conscious mining, where economic objectives are being taken care of simultaneously with the social and environmental responsibilities. For this, the corporation is working closely with the local stakeholders and district authorities, so that the mining-led growth translates into realistic benefits for the communities living around the operational region.
