

On January 27, Mohan Charan Majhi, Chief Minister of Odisha, inaugurated India’s first Flat Rolled Products (FRP) aluminium unit at Hindalco Industries’ Aditya Aluminium plant in Lapanga, Sambalpur district. Achieving a significant milestone in downstream aluminium manufacturing, this involves an investment of about INR 212 billion (USD 2.3 billion). The project is expected to generate over 5,000 direct and indirect employment, supporting domestic industrial growth.

The project consists of a specialised battery foil unit, built with an estimated investment of INR 8.34 billion (USD 90.1 million). It is aimed at bolstering critical raw material needs with support up to 100 GWh of lithium-ion cell manufacturing capacity, catering to domestic demand in electric vehicles (EVs), energy storage and advanced manufacturing sectors.
Addressing the event, the CM stated that a “new industrial revolution” was in progress at Odisha, emphasised by about INR 20 trillion (USD 218 billion) in investment proposals that, once realised, could create roughly 1.5 million jobs all over the state.
He described western Odisha “as a symbol of confidence, discipline and enterprise,” evolving into a hub of world-class manufacturing, with industrial growth expected to bring “real change in people's lives - jobs for youth, security for families, and better education and healthcare.”
Encouraging people to welcome industries, he reiterated, "Industry is a key foundation of our prosperous future."

According to the Hindalco MD, Satish Pai, the total investment in the projects adds up to INR 500 billion (USD 6 billion), which would generate approximately 15,000 jobs for the youth. Additionally, the company would be employing nearly 4,500 women across its facilities at Sambalpur, Keonjhar, and Rayagada.
At the same complex, the CM performed the ground-breaking for a major smelter expansion part of Hindalco’s ongoing growth capex programme in Odisha, worth INR 370 billion (USD 4 billion) and aligned with the company’s overall national expansion plan.
The day also saw the inauguration of the 25th CII Enterprise Odisha Exhibition 2026 in Rourkela, showcasing industrial capabilities and investment opportunities across sectors.
