India’s mineral production rises 5.2% YOY in Dec 2016; Bauxite up by 21%

Initial data released by the Ministry of Mines, Government of India, shows the country's mineral output in December 2016 rose 5.2 per cent from the corresponding period previous year. Production of bauxite, the principal ore of aluminium metal, increased by 21 per cent compared to that recorded in December 2015.

The total produced volume of minerals (excluding atomic and minor minerals) for the period under review was valued at INR22,348 crore. Coal contributed the highest percentage (42 per cent) at INR9,317 crore, while crude oil contributed INR5,553 crore followed by iron ore at INR2,438 crore, natural gas (utilised) at INR2,195 crore, lignite at INR804 crore and limestone at INR528 crore.

The cumulative value of the six minerals contributed about 93 per cent of India's total value of mineral produced in December 2016.

In December 2016, total bauxite production in India stood at 20.81 lakh tonnes, up 21 per cent from the same period previous year.
