Indian opposition party vows to oppose bauxite mining
The State Government seeking the Central Government to review bauxite mining in Visakha Agency was only to go ahead with the mining, but any attempt to start mining would lead to serious consequences, CPI(M) district secretary Ch. Narasinga Rao said at a press conference here on Saturday.

While Union Minister for Tribal Welfare V. Kishore Chandra Deo was repeatedly insisting on cancellation of bauxite mining lease and another Union Minister Jairam Ramesh has recently said the mining proposal should be cancelled for 20 years, the State Government announcing in the Assembly that it sought the Centre to review its mining policy should be condemned, he said. The Girijans would not allow the mining and all political parties are behind them, said Mr. Narasinga Rao.

State Government’s keenness to take up mining even after the Girijans were strongly opposing it was undemocratic, he said and demanded cancellation of agreements it made with Anrak and Jindal Steel companies for supply of bauxite.
