IBM cracks the whip against illegal mining in state

The Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), which promotes scientific and systematic development of mineral resources and its rational use, has cracked the whip against large-scale illegal mining in Raigad district in Western Maharashtra and Nagpur region.
The action pertains to violations of provisions of Mineral Conservation & Development Rules (MCDR) 1988, under which the lease holders did not carry out mining operations in accordance with the approved mining plan.
The biggest mining scam has been exposed in Raigad district in Western Maharashtra where Meghare Bauxite Mines of Manohar Daryanani in Shrivardhan taluka alone caused a loss of over Rs 25 crore to the state exchequer by mining over 93,000 metric tonnes (mt) of bauxite illegally.
