Herberton bauxite miner vows to avoid trouble with Tableland farmers

A SYDNEY miner has vowed to steer clear of any conflict with Tableland farmers when it starts exploring land near Herberton for bauxite within the next six months.
Queensland Bauxite Ltd owns two tenements about 16km northwest and about 18km south-southeast of the town.
Executive chairwoman Pnina "Diamond Rose" Feldman is the sister of mining entrepreneur Joseph Gutnick.
Two exploration permits have been granted for a subsidiary of the company Volcan Australia, which reportedly has capitalisation of nearly $1 billion.
Ms Feldman said her company hoped to find commercially viable bauxite deposits on the Tableland with a view to starting direct shipping or bauxite mining and export operations in the near-term.
"We have historical results that show there is a potential, but that was done in the 1950s and ’60s," she said.
"But whatever you don’t do yourself, you don’t know for sure you’re getting the correct picture."
