Fiji achieves success in Bauxite mining

About $28.8million worth of bauxite has been exported to China from Bua mines at Fiji this year.
This is equivalent to 12 shipments of bauxite sent from Bua in the North.
Acting Commissioner Northern Alipate Bolalevu said the mining investment at Nawailevu in Bua had been a success.
He said the Aurum Exploration (Fiji) Ltd had also identified another potential bauxite site in the same area.
Company executive Derek Qiu said preparation work at the new site had started.
"However, mining work will not begin soon. But basic preparation work like the construction of a bridge at the new site has started," Mr Qiu said.
"The new site is about 500metres from the existing mining area.
"We have already got the consent of the landowners who belong to mataqali Naita in the village of Votua in Lekutu district."
Mr Qiu said their relationship with the local community had been good.
"We work well together and the company also gives back to the community through assistance to schools and villages.
"We have gifts to give out this Christmas season as well and our focus is on education.
"We want to make sure that the children of Bua get the best education opportunities."
